Before Buying a Prop Firm Challenge: 12 Rules to Check
Use this pre-purchase checklist to uncover the limits, strategy restrictions and payout conditions that matter after checkout.
The checkout price is only one part of a prop challenge. The rules determine whether your normal trading process can complete the evaluation and remain eligible for rewards. A few minutes of structured checking can prevent a purchase that conflicts with your strategy. Open the official terms, FAQ and program page together, because important definitions may be split across several documents.
The twelve-point checklist
Record: evaluation phases; profit target for every phase; daily loss formula; maximum loss formula; drawdown type; minimum and maximum trading days; inactivity period; news-trading window; overnight and weekend holding policy; EA, bot and copy-trading rules; consistency or best-day requirement; and payout schedule, threshold and profit split. Also confirm account currency, server reset time, commissions, swap, platform and eligible instruments.
Turn rules into a trading plan
Translate percentage limits into currency and reserve a safety margin for fees and slippage. Check whether floating losses count and whether a profitable open position can raise a trailing boundary. Map economic releases to the firm’s news window. If you use several accounts, verify allocation, IP, device and trade-copier policies. Finally, confirm regional eligibility and identity-verification requirements before payment. Save screenshots or PDFs of the rules and order confirmation.
